Basically we were fighting harpies that were flying over the ocean, and the Druid casted Earthbind on one of them, and it failed the save. Recently in a game, a weird situation occurred, and we ruled it one way, as none of us seem to have come across this situation before. There are two spellcasters, one casts Earthbind on the Beholder, the other casts Darkness where the Beholder lands, which now results in the Beholder being unable to attack in any way, unless a someone decides to stay within 5ft of it for its Bite. Often I hear of the Darkness + Earthbind combo. The Beholder would lose their speed, and be forced onto the ground for the duration, as long as the caster isn't incapacitated or killed. Oddly, it looks as if it can cripple the Beholder, and some other flying creatures (like an Air Elemental). It seems incredibly powerful in some circumstances, and allows you to bring a flying opponent out of reach, within reach for your Close Ranged PCs. It also will pull an airborne creature down to the ground 60ft each turn, until it reaches the ground or the spell ends. If effected, reduces the target's Flying Speed to 0, which can include Flying (Hover) and spells that grant you a Flying Speed. The target only makes one Strength Save against be against the spell, and if it fails, is effected for the entire duration (or Concentration is lost), requiring no future Saving Throws. It has a range of 300ft, so you'll almost always be able to target who you wish, no matter how far they are in combat. It seems to be a very good spell, though limited in the fact you won't be able to use it in every situation.
